A deck over living space is a roof

Any exposed deck or balcony built over finished space is a roof. It just doesn't look like one. The waterproofing under the walking surface is what keeps water off the structural deck, the framing, and the room below.

No room for a leak

A leak here shows up as damage to the ceiling, framing, and finishes underneath. The transitions, edges, drains, and penetrations are where the work is.

The Waterproofing System

PC-260 is the membrane.

Ridgeline uses Polycoat PC-260 as the waterproofing membrane in exposed-deck systems. It's the base that keeps water off the structure. The membrane doesn't dictate the finished surface: depending on the assembly, PC-260 can be incorporated beneath finished walking surfaces such as tile or concrete/topping systems, as well as under an exposed wear coat. Primers and topcoats vary with the substrate, the exposure, and the finish.

Substrate → Primer → PC-260 Waterproofing Membrane → Finished Surface / Wear System

Substrate

Plywood, concrete, or existing deck, prepped and detailed at the edges and penetrations.

Primer

Matched to the substrate so the membrane bonds and stays bonded.

PC-260 Membrane

The waterproofing layer itself, continuous across the deck and up the transitions.

Finished Surface / Wear

The walking surface over the membrane: an exposed wear coat, tile, or a concrete/topping system, depending on the assembly.

From the Field

Before, during, after.

Most of a deck system gets covered up once the walking surface goes down. Here's the part that matters, in order.
